Students stay in single rooms in University residence (aka Studentenwohnheim).
As a bustling university town, Freiburg provides a wealth of restaurants, cafes, and imbiss options—something for every taste and budget. In addition to the available student meal-plans (http://www.studentenwerk.uni-freiburg.de), each University residence has its own fully stocked kitchen.

The Seminars take place at the University of Freiburg, which is a short bus ride/25 min walk from the residences. Students who wish to attend BFWS without booking the School’s residential facilities may do so, in which case they must make their own accommodation arrangements and inform both the Black Forest Writing Seminars and Sommer Akademie of their Freiburg address. In this case you only need to pay for tuition. For those who want to extend their time in Freiburg you are welcome to stay in your dorm up to August 19th at no additional cost.
